My name is Cherise and I am currently the Office Manager here at The Dive Academy and I am a PADI Open Water Instructor. This wasn't always my story.
When I was 19 years old I went to Mexico with my family because my sister was getting married there. Mexico has always been a family favorite because it's a short flight away from Canada.
In our down time everyone was deciding what tours we would like to do. A family friend was a diver and basically gave me the idea of trying scuba diving.
The night before my Discover Scuba Diving I managed to get a whole two hours of sleep. I was extremely claustrophobic (thanks to my brother) and terrified of sharks even in our fresh water lakes in Canada.
The day started off with us meeting our Instructor and going through the briefing of what was going to happen for the day. I just wanted to get in the water and get it all over with.
Finally I was jumping into the water for my first dive. I remember putting my face in the water and having it feel very awkward. I could hear myself breathing and feel the bubbles tickling my cheeks. After I managed to do the three skills we got to explore the reef.
The color's were all so bright and beautiful with marine life swimming all around me. There seemed to be no such thing as time as our forty minute dive felt like ten. I knew I was hooked after my first dive experience.
I found myself with a new love for the Ocean and have not looked back since. It still continues to amaze me to this day. Doing the Discover Scuba Dive in Mexico eight years ago remains one of the best decisions of my life.
